Jeff:
Quote :
Game Day Saturday November Second?  Alternate, Saturday November 9th?
Tom:
Quote :
Either of those days would work for me.
Glen:
Quote :
November 2-3 is King Con down in Warner Robbins. That is where Sarah and I will be. Christian will be there, as well. I believe that we have plans for the 9th as well. Perhaps the 16th or the 23rd?
Tony:
Quote :
Steven has asked me to respond stating that he is able to make it on either the 2nd or the 9th as he has been working a few days and has sufficient travel funds.  He just needs to know ahead of time. Also, he notes that yahoo groups sucks (paraphrased) <g>.
Jeff:
Quote :
I'm leaning towards the 2nd for next game day.  I know some can't make it that weekend or the next.  The 2 following weekends, 16th and the 23rd, are closing in on the Thanksgiving holidays.  Perhaps some sort of big group meal and game gathering would be held close to Thanksgiving. So next game day, 2nd, I think.
My Response:
Quote :
So two things:

First, Anna and I should be able to make it.

We also have an alternative offer. When Jeff saw our living room he declared it "Perfect for Roleplaying". I tend to agree. Jeff, if you'f prefer, we can host the game. We should be more or less equidistant for the Atlanta folks. The girls and Beth are more than welcome. I'm sure between the puppy, Una, and the Cats they'll be entertained for hours, and we can put a movie on in our room for them. And if you bring the laptops they can Wizard (Beth can use my computer). Or just you and Tom can make the trek, whichever. You might not be prepared to make the trek so soon after the trip this week, so I'll understand if you'd rather not. Given that we never broke out the Hot Dogs for the 4H party, I can sweeten the pot with the hotdogs from that for foodage. We'll just need sides. Drinks will be on your own. We can provide Kool-aid (both Splenda and sugar based) and Tea (both sugar and Splenda based), but that's about it after this past weekend Smile

To be clear, we are more than willing to travel to the Passmore Abode. I just wanted to offer our place as an option.

-------------------

Given that Glen (our SR5 guru) will be out for this, and I'd rather not muddle through on my own, we'll need another plan for the game. This will probably be done by the end of the game. In all cases there is very little prep work for both me as GM and for you as players. And who knows, maybe we'll stumble onto yet another game we might like to play long term.
Game Options (listed in no particular order)
Hunter the Vigil (White Wolf Game for the 'New' World of Darkness - uses D10s; roll 8 or better. Any die with 8 or better = success)

Like most people, you’ve probably had the sense—at least once—that things are not right with the world and not everything is as it seems. You’ve felt that sinister truths hide behind a façade of normality, veiled partially by the rational, orderly “natural laws” we call science. And when night falls, when the shadows grow long and the wind whistles through the trees, you shudder and remember the truths of your ancestors, who were right to fear the dark. You’ve just entered the World of Darkness, a world very much like our own, save that the shadows hide very real monsters (though most people fool themselves into believing it isn’t so).
In Hunter: The Vigil, the sixth Storytelling game set in the World of Darkness, you and your friends tell the story of those people who
have come to recognize the truth, that monsters exist. These individuals cannot sit idly by. They study their foes. They destroy them or steal their power. They use them as pawns against one another. It’s not an easy thing, the endless hunt, the ceaseless Vigil. It is a thing of brutality and obsession, a slope slippery with the blood of those who came and fell before, a slope that descends into nightmare. And yet they can do no differently, because the Vigil drives them. They sacrifice. They push forward. They hunt.
The characters presented in this scenario are all new to the Vigil, having encountered the supernatural for the first time less than a week before the events of the first scene. The three detectives (along with their now-deceased partner, Darnell Waters) all belong to the Special Cases Unit, a small police unit created by the Mayor’s Office with the stated goal of stemming the rapid growth of Philadelphia’s gangs. The unit worked hard to clean up the streets, but threats and procedural shortcuts soon turned into bribes and protection schemes, and they strayed from the straight and narrow. The detectives became involved with Raimundo and the Siete Muertos’ drug trafficking, but their carelessness eventually drew the attention of the Internal Affairs Bureau, leading to both an investigation and Agent Carver’s interest in the team.
While the SCU (along with Raimundo and a couple of his soldiers) followed Carver’s tip about strange activity in a downtown warehouse, they were attacked by flesh-eating monsters called ghouls. Waters was taken by the ghouls as they made their escape into the sewers beneath the warehouse, and the cell vowed to track down the monsters and save him. Gabreski started by reaching out to Karl, an old media contact of his, and with his help they located the ghouls’ lairs. The cell wiped out nearly all the ghouls, but was not in time to save Darnell from a grisly fate. Galvanized by their exposure to the secret world around them, the characters accepted Carver’s offer of conditional membership in Task Force: VALKYRIE. Now, not even a week after their fight with the ghouls, the IAB investigation has been shelved and they are tasked with looking into a gruesome (and clearly occult) murder.
Pregens will be provided for this.

Only War - Eleventh Hour! (40K game; uses D10s mostly, but as d100; roll lower than your skill rating to succeed; )

You are a member of the Imperial Guard of the Imperium of Man. A soldier in the grim future where there is only war! Your squad is out on maneuvers and just got word that the commanders of your regiment have called in for orbital bombardment. Yay! Wait, you're WAY out behind the lines, and the bombardment starts in 11 hours. Oh crap! Orks, cultists, terrain, and wildlife stand in your way. Good luck soldier, you'll need it! Pregens for everyone.

Star Wars (D6): Manhunt (uses D6, add up the result of your dice to determine if you succeed)

You've been tasked by the Rebel Alliance to recover a hero of the Old Republic before the Empire finds him and kills or captures him. You've got to meet up with Agent Dana on Kwenn Space Station and recover her before her cover is blown. Something BIG is up, and it's up to you to figure out what. Takes place in the same time frame as "A New Hope." I'll provide templates and pregenerated characters for folks to choose from.

If I'm gonna play a Hunter, I'd like to play the Monster Hunter International rpg that Larry Correia developed to go with his Monster Hunter series. I've got an sr5 character ready to go, but otherwise, I might just enjoy hanging out.

If you've got a quickstart to go with it, I'm all for it. I was listing the games I had quickstarts for or easy to use adventures (in the case of Star Wars). I don't want to tackle SR5 without Glen there for the first game for a variety of reasons.

I haven't got any of that stuff. He just did a kickstarter for it a while back. I'm not sure if it's out yet or not. Lemme do a little research and find out.

It's from Hero games.

Here's a link for the hard copy book.

Here's one for the pdf version.

After reading it, I think we could do the same thing with the Cortex core rules, but since I'm the only one who's read the books that I know of, I don't know if anybody else would like it as much. Hunter is probably thematically similar without the humor and fantasy elements... or the fact that MHI hunts monster for profit, not necessarily to save the world (although they wind up doing that).

Yeah, white wolf tends to play their worlds a lot more serious than that. Now they have April Fools' Day modules, but I am trying to go for something a lot easier to pick up and run with all rules explained either in the module or in the introduction.

Same for Only War (Imperial Guard), actually - though they intersperse quite a bit of ironic humor in their stuff. Mostly so they can pull it back from the utter pit of despair that the game can be if you don't include it.

Star Wars is an old published module, and the use of the pregens and templates cuts down how much has to be done day of play.

D6 Star Wars was my very first rpg. That would be my vote for nostalgia's sake. Dust me off a Bounty Hunter or a Wookiee, and I'd be all kinds of happy.

Another option is I found a quickstart for Game of Thrones with 6 characters. A young Lord, his bannerman and Uncle, his Maester, his squire, his lord of horses (and also bastard brother, unknown to the lord), and the septa of the House. If my count is right (Jeff, Tom, Tony, Jodi, Steven, and Anna) that puts us as just perfect. If I am wrong, then I could recycle some characters and give them new backgrounds, or maybe find other characters online somewhere.

Also not bad, but I'd have to rename my character Ser Bandersnatch Cumberband.

From Tony:
I have an alternative plan that may work, all things considered. Rather than jump into another system or quick start, I propose the following:

Another Sandbox Adventure:

DM (Jodi)

Gorbud (Steven)
Chenna (Pat)
E'lir (Tom)
Gnarl (Tony)

and Anna and Jeff to join in.

I spoke with Pat and he's willing to get toons ready for Jeff and Anna.

I triple-checked with Jodi and she's willing to run a game.

So, if there are no objections, the plan would be to do a one-off (probably a couple or three sessions) of DnD 4E. Jodi would be doing another Chaos Shard adventure.

She asked that Steven, Pat,a and Tom send her whatever they recall about our last adventures.

I reminded her that E'lir kinda disappeared unexpectedly before our last encounter. It's all good, though. I imagine we'll meet back up with him, rather non-plussed, shrugging and saying something like "What? That happens to me all the time." And on we go....

If anyone has another preference, speak now, or this is the plan. Smile

We will be able to make it. I canceled the game that I was going to run Saturday evening so we could join yall. Not sure exactly when we can get there. We have a hotel down in Warner Robbins and we are headed down Friday night.

If you are thinking of going to KingCon, there is a game called Shaintar that is being run by the creator of the setting. It is an interesting setting.

As I am the cause of the confusion, and it is not my birthday, I would offer to run the game.

I have created a poll here (Poll @ Zs Place ).

The options that I would like to offer are:
* Shadowrun Missions
* Shadowrun (other) - which means that I make it up as we go along.
* Pathfinder Society - I have several PFS legal games available
* Pathfinder (new campaign) - See suggestions/rules below
* Surprise Me

Now, if someone else is going to run, that would be quite fine as well.

Pathfinder Campaign
------------------------------------------
New, 1st level characters
Core Rulebook + 1 trait from Web Trait addon
Any core race or class
30 points for Stats. No stat can be bought higher than 18. No stat below 10 (except from race)
You will be starting near a seaside town. Swimming skills may be appropriate. Heavy Armor = weight
Non-companion animals may have issues. May want to reconsider that horse/pony purchase
Inflexible alignment choices will make for challenging role play
Limit of 1 Masterwork armor or weapon
Each class starts with max gold or 150 gp, whichever is higher.

How does that sound?

Alright, With most, if not all, of the gang back in, we can also fall back on what we had planned originally - a SR5 introductory game with me running and Glen helping me with rules and such.

----Steven, Anna, and Jeff have their character done (and Olivia if she shows). Street Sammy, Mystic Adept and Face.

----I can work with Tony and Jodi to get them something to play. (Mage or Mystic Adept, and B&E/Combat Specialist)

----Glen has options for he and Sarah. (Some sort of hacker/rigger, and something for Sarah)

----Tom will need something. Tom, give me a call and we can discuss it.

The game will be pretty straightforward (no super twists) consisting of a food fight, a run, a bit of investigation, and a final battle. It will show off some of the fun of SR Atlanta, and introduce some of the players' backgrounds.

And we can discuss after that at the game. Folks should try to have at least some idea of their schedule for Thanksgiving if possible (if not, we'll ad-lib).

Only other thing we need to finalize is if we're meeting at Jeff's or our place. Jeff never responded to that.

Joker's a brawler. Picked up a little cyberware in the CAS Marines, but nothing too fancy.

Cool. I'll throw some ideas together and email them your way. Or Steven, if you have the time and inclination, you can throw some ideas Tom's way, since he's your family member Razz

Game is at my place in Milledgeville. 660 Nelson Rd, 31061. This is the Nelson Rd near downtown (off Cline), not the one out in the woods north of town. I'll be posting picture laced directions soonish.
