Mother: X’ennia d'Phiarlan (Bard/Barbarian)
The youngest child of the unhappy but politically advantageous marriage of Tellian d'Phiarlan to a Noble Drow lady from Xendrick, she was flighty and full of passion. While she embraced the family's entertainment side, she rejected the rest of the house's purpose - information gathering. She left Sharn one day and returned a few months later married and pregnant, ruining the family's plans for her marriage.
Just before the Mourning happened, many of the leaders of House Phiarlan were needed elsewhere, and someone was needed to represent the House's interests in Cyre. Much to X'ennia's surprise, she and her husband were sent to represent Phiarlan in place of her parents, who were desperately needed in Sharn. When the dust settled after the Mourning, she and her husband Vaelas were counted among the missing from the terrible tragedy that was the Mourning.

A cultured man from a wild people, Vaelas never really fit in among the Valenar. Rather than concentrating on his sword work and riding, he read. He taught himself to mix together the various plants and other materials that he gathered, much of which he used to create new colors of paint for his hobby - painting. It also allowed him to increase the luck that people had with things that he had decorated.
He returned from a gathering trip and found his brother with a angry woman thrown over his saddle. 'I shall marry her, I found her wandering the plains.' said the brother. 'She has much spirit. She shall bear many strong children.'
"I think that you would be better wedding a Yuan'ti than bedding her unwillingly, brother" said Vaelas. This was immediately followed by an angry muffled grunt from the wriggling package on the back of the horse. Vaelas looked at the woman and was entranced by the Gray eyes staring at him challengingly. He paused. "Brother, I will make you an offer. If you will give her to me, I will paint your tent in mystical symbols that will make you even more of a man in the eyes of women." Vaelas offered his arm to the brother, as if to seal a bargain.
The Brother thought about that. "You are correct. She is a mean one, and unwilling to follow the traditions. Your paintings had better secure me a woman soon." The Brother clasped arms to seal the bargain, then picked up the woman from the horse and threw her on the bed in Vaelas's tent. "Enjoy yourself, Vaelas. I got the better end of the bargain." Another muffled grunt came from the bound figure on the bed.

- Darkvision (Alternate Racial Trait)
As the grandchild of a dynastic marriage between an Elf and a Drow, Da'ren shares some of the traits of his drow grandmother, including darkvision. He does not, however, gain the headaches that go with her darkvision.
- Lightbringer (Alternate Racial Trait)
For some reason, Da'ren is tied to the Irenia. No one knows why, as he is part drow, but the light of Irena has touched him from birth. If he ever were to cast a light based spell, it would be slightly more powerful than a normal light based spell. Also, It protects him from being dazzled by light, which is why his darkvision does not negatively effect him.

- Antiquities Smuggler (Trait)
When you live among a family of professional spies, you tend to get some experience on the opposite side of the street. Da'ren was involved in the family's antiquities smuggling operations for several years.

Clothing is like armor for social situations. Da'ren is proficient in how to use his clothing to best protect himself in social situations.

As a scion of house Phirlan, Da'ren was born to privilege. Even though his parents were despised by the rest of the family, he still has access to financial resources that are almost ridiculous in scope. His competence and previous success also contribute to this access.
