Name: Velvel Brand
Alias: Nutjob
Metatype: Ork

Velvel Brand was born and raised in South Boston by an Irish father and a Jewish mother. Being poor and Irish was bad enough, but poor, Irish, and an ork with a funny name was a bit much. From early childhood, Velvel was always getting into fights, which was about all the attention the boy got from people outside of his family, and he didn't get much attention from them because they were all working to keep the family fed, clothed, and sheltered. So, Velvel developed a pretty detailed fantasy world that he would escape into, populated by his favorite characters from trid, comix, and adventure novels.

When he got big enough to pass for 17, Velvel enlisted in the Marines to get the hell outta Southie. The Marine Corps brought out Velvel's violent talents and focused them. He liked to volunteer for any assignment that might have even a minimum of excitement. After his first tour with the Marines, Velvel decided that The Man's military was just too tame for him. So, he moved into "private contracting," and the mercenary business did prove to be as exciting as he hoped.

Always on the lookout for new and interesting experiences, Velvel volunteered for whatever cyber enhancements the company wanted to provide him with. No one is really quite sure what went wrong, but some piece of Velvel's implanted equipment had a faulty chip or a loose wire in it, which started triggering odd behavior in the merc. He was functional, even exceptional, at his job, but he started blurring the line between reality and his fantasy world. In moments of intense stress, or boredom, Velvel will hallucinate visions of his childhood fantasy world (think Terabithia with a heavy dose of James Bond and Swedish Bikini Models). Velvel also suffers from delusions, although the nature and intensity of his delusions can and do change on a whim. However, while in the throws of a delusion, he totally believes it. His "favorite" delusions involve either believing that he is a mutant superhero from the future here to rescue the past or that he's really a human posing as an ork to "keep it real for mah goblin peeps, yo."

Another favorite delusion of his is "Stinky Bob." Velvel picks a random homeless person, names him "Stinky Bob," and tries to train said homeless person to be his comic sidekick. He also keeps a high-end emotitoy with him that he calls Pisher. The two converse exclusively in Yiddish.

  • "Sergei" (L:3, C:1) Russian Mercenary that Nutjob met in Sarajevo. They worked well together and still keep in touch. Sergei is currently somewhere in Siberia doing something that he probably shouldn't.
  • "Stinky Bob" (L:1, C:1) The current Stinky Bob is a guy named "Phil." Whether or not "Phil" actually exists, nobody really knows.
